Is Paris Dead?

Been spending the Christmas period in Paris and have come to the conclusion that Paris is for ‘folks of a certain age’.

While every town and city would have been buzzing on the Saturday before Christmas Paris was decidedly sleepy with no real buzz where ever we went.

On the Saturday before we ended up at Barrio Latino for a drink and bite to eat, I really didn’t hold any kind of hope that a table would be free, however the bar was very quiet and a table was found with ease.

While it’s a great place I expected it to be much fuller and been lively by 11:00 but this just wasn’t the case.

From here we ventured back to the main square of Bastille, again where was the life, the people and the bustle, it was after all only 11:00.

We did end up in a bar round Bastille till about 12:30 but everywhere was still really quiet, I believe it’s part of a chain the ‘Paradis de Fruit’ but was the only place with any number of people in.

My last statement is focused on the very poor mojitos made in the bars we visited. I had high hopes in Barrio Latino but it was pretty poor; a combination of poor mixing and not enough ice really let the drink down. I suspect I’ve been spoiled by the quality mojitos at Raoul’s in Oxford.

So is Paris dead?
