At the moment we are planning / researching what dogs to get when we move to Guildford.
Now this is a long drawn out process that will take some time (may be a year).
As part of this research we decided to make the trip to Crufts, which is officially the worlds largest dog show and as part of the planning process to visit Crufts was visiting their website.
Now usually in the dog and cat world the websites you see are, well more than a little nasty, and very web 1.0. Think geosites but far worse.
But Crufts is so very different, they have truly embraced what is happening in the online space, if not verging on cutting edge.
So as well as the usual well designed website they had a streaming station, a Crufts YouTube space, blogs from people involved with Crufts including a judge ,a flickr group but what impressed me the most was the Crufts Twitter channel.
It’s the first time I’ve seen Twitter used by a non-tech site / event and I’ve got to say it worked really well.
Being able to stay in touch with what was going on at Crufts while on the move was great. The updates are just the right length to keep you engaged.
It also looks like Crufts / The Kennel Club are going to use Twitter throughout the year so I say to them well done. It’s great seeing emerging technology being used in such a practical way.
As for what dog we’re getting – it’s just got a whole lot harder.
